The week of April 24-28 is a YMCA Initiative to raise awareness and provide resources about child sexual abuse so that our communities can do their part to prevent occurrences of child sexual abuse.
In preparation for this important initiative, we are discussing with our vacation-week school-age participants (from April 17-21) how important rules are for people and organizations to keep everyone safe. For example, at the YMCA, we follow the Rule of 3 to ensure that no child is left alone with an adult. As part of this education process, our youth are making blue pinwheel pencils to increase their understanding.
During the week of April 24-28, the YMCA Welcome Centers will have the pinwheel pencils on display and members and non-members can support this initiative by donating $1 to receive a pinwheel pencil. All proceeds will go to our YMCA Annual Campaign to help provide children a safe place to hang out or a safe program to participate in no matter their financial situation.
On Friday, April 28, we encourage everyone to wear blue to raise awareness about child sexual abuse and our efforts to prevent it.
